Trena and I wrestle with family traditions often. I have never really stopped to count the number of traditions that we follow but I would be willing to bet you Brooke or Becca could count them in a heartbeat. One thing that we have successfully instilled into our children is the fact family comes first.
I heard a line in a movie today from, We Bought a Zoo… “I am the end of the short line of people who really care about you.”
In a more subtle way Trena and I have taught the girls that family is first. We rely on each other before others, you always choose family over others… etc… etc… Part of that philosophy is to have family time and traditions. Shopping at Walmart this morning, Trena tells me we need to buy a bottle of Coke for Christmas Eve. Every Christmas Eve the girls get to drink a Coke. Funny how the little things makes you stop and appreciate life. Walking over to the soft drink isle, Trena finds a 4-pack of Christmas Coke bottles. Little bitty things. Perfect. (doing a quick google search I realize that I could sell my 4-pack for a profit on ebay at the moment)
To me, Christmas break is about family, and spending time together. One of our favorite past-times is to watch a few movies together that we can fit in between College Bowl Games, NFL Playoff race, and endless shopping sprees.
I hit Redbox the other night and grabbed a dvd of a movie I had missed and was clueless about, The Warrior.
This movie was amazing! I was shocked at how good it was. The dude on the right is a beast. He is impressive. He mowed through the competition like they were kids. Spectacular. I recommend you watch this TONIGHT.
On the other hand, Pops and I decided to meet in The Woodlands for a little shopping, a couple of beers, catching up and watch a movie. We chose to see a show that had a hot leading lady, Charlize Theron, instead of something that was actually GOOD. Don’t waste your time or money. If you want to see Charlize, I have attached a few good shots of her below. Much better that paying for the movie. Seriously, Young Adult is not worth it.
Today, the girls and I caught my favorite actor, Matt Damon, in We Bought a Zoo. This was stunning and a great family movie. Made me cry and laugh at the same time. I walked out of the movie wishing it wasn’t over. On the ride home I actually told Trena we should buy a zoo. We laughed.
You gotta respect Matt. He is such a regular guy. I think I have been caught in this exact image, situation, and time… Matt you’re the man.
Now for a little Charlize
