The second game against Colombia was a war! The referee forgot her whistle in the locker room I can only assume??? Throughout most of the game, which was physical on both sides, the ref never blew a whistle. There was even a moment when a player from both teams were both on the ground, kicking a ball from underneath each others legs getting heated and starting to push and the ref allowed them to continue until there was shoving and pushing. COME ON…
Here is the play that really shows the ignorance or laziness of the referees.
US is making a run on a beautiful through ball to the left side. Wambach is sprinting down the middle toward the goal. Lady Andrade (yes her name is Lady) runs up behind her, plants her right foot and swings a right uppercut directly into Wambach’s eye.
This knocks her down and the play fizzles out. She is laying on the ground with her eye quickly swelling shut. NO FOUL??? This is an automatic red card in any game I have ever seen.
I love Abby Wambach… She calls it “ice” and just calms herself, doing nothing stupid that will cost her a suspension in the quarterfinals and simply goes out and scores a beautiful goal. She runs to the referee holding open her swollen eye!
Lets go Olympic Committee! Ban this so called LADY Andrade.
The next best thing that happened in the game was with Megan Rapinoe. Megan scored a brilliant goal and pulls a message out of her sock that says “Happy Birthday to Alex Kreiger“ Alex blew out her knee in a qualifier back in January. My favorite defender.
